The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) is currently recruiting permanent Plumbers to work within our prisons near you across Scotland.

The Plumber will support the Estates Management team in all aspects of Estates work to provide a comprehensive repairs and maintenance service for all mechanical systems and plant, for example plumbing, BEMS, heating and ventilation systems.

There will be a requirement for you to periodically work on call hours, and you may need to travel to other establishments and areas. For this reason, a full driving licence that enables the person to drive in the UK is preferred. SPS is willing to consider proposals put forward by applicants to carry out the duties by any other means.

All of our Plumber’s roles are based on 37 hours per week worked across Monday to Friday and we provide all tools and PPE.

However from 1st December 2024 SPS’ contractual full-time equivalent working hours will reduce from 37 to 35 hours without a reduction in pay which in turn will effectively increase equivalent hourly rates.

With a recent increase in starting salaries, a reduction in hours about to kick in and great additional benefits; if you are looking for a new role, now could be the perfect time to join us and continue your career.
