The Scottish Prison Service is looking for a Windows Systems Administrator to join our IT team within our Head office in Edinburgh. As a Microsoft subject matter expert you will be part of our highly technical team that develops and supports the critical infrastructure that powers our 13 prisons, HQ, College and Central stores. You will take part in exciting infrastructure projects using the latest windows and virtualisation technologies and deploy leading edge services across our Scotland wide estate.

Responsibilities
Act as a Microsoft subject matter expert and administer the following servers : Windows Servers, Exchange Servers, SharePoint servers, Database servers and application servers.
Install, upgrade administer and support new systems and functionalities to meet business growth and changing business requirements.
Collaborate in the design and development of business critical systems to meet user needs.
Suggest creative solutions to develop business systems to provide more reliable and effective support as the company develops and expands.
Interface with other teams and work with system users to define their needs, identify problems, evaluate potential solutions and demonstrate, install and implement improvements. Act as an escalation point of contact for the IT Support Team to resolve more complex issues as they arise.
Be capable of working proactively and independently in carrying out your day to day role with limited need for supervision.

Qualifications Requirements

ESSENTIAL:  Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or relevant experience in a large geographically distributed environment.

 

DESIRABLE: You hold or are working toward a Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert(MCSE)
Experience Requirements
ESSENTIAL: Experience/exposure of working with Microsoft System Centre Suite and other third party management tools, MS SQLServer; Managing and installing 3rd party server applications. Experience of enterprise level backup and anti-virus products. Exposure to Office 365 and cloud solutions.

ESSENTIAL:  Hands on systems  administration experience in the following primary areas; Patching, OS  deployment, Microsoft Exchange Server 2010/2016, Active Directory, Powershell   scripting, Windows Server 2008/2012/2016/2019 (detailed knowledge of OS   components and server roles such as DFS, DNS, DHCP and SNMP); experience of Hyper-V clustering. Experience of Cisco UCS servers and service templates.

ESSENTIAL: Experience in designing, developing and implementing business critical systems to meet organisational requirements and technology changes. Experience of Cyber Security solutions and good practice.
Knowledge Skills Requirements
ESSENTIAL: IT Knowledge : Sound general IT Knowledge, including a good understanding of network infrastructures and authentication processes.
ESSENTIAL : Issue identification and Analysis : Evidence of your ability to extract, analyse , interpret and present complex information and IT issues in a way which supports effective decision making and demonstrates your ability to manage the successful implementation of solutions.
ESSENTIAL Planning,implementation and control : Evidence of your excellent organisational skills, demonstrating your ability to prioritise, forward plan, manage competing demands and work under pressure to ensure outputs are delivered within organisational timescales.
 ESSENTIAL: Communication and interpersonal skills : Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate and build effective relationships with a range of external and internal stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
