The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) is currently recruiting permanent Plumbing & Heating Maintenance Engineers to work within our prisons across Scotland. We currently have vacancies in the following locations: HMP Inverness and HMP Perth, however we will consider applications for other locations across Scotland. Our Plumbing & Heating Maintenance Engineers provide a comprehensive repairs and maintenance service for all mechanical systems and plant, for example plumbing, heating and ventilation systems. We will invest in your development to allow you to learn and apply new skills which can include development into management roles.
Please note that there will be a requirement to periodically work on call hours.
Successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Scotland check and a pre-employment medical assessment to determine suitability for role.
The safety and wellbeing of those living and working in our prisons is a priority for the SPS. We are continuing to recruit for essential roles, and the recruitment process will be facilitated online and where required, virtually. Therefore, if progressing to the interview stage, you will not need to attend an SPS premises to attend your interview.
SPS recruitment and selection practice is based on the fundamentals of our Behavioural Competency Framework. This identifies behaviours and standards required both of applicants seeking to join us, and our staff in their respective roles. Assessment of specific behaviours, of which there are twelve, will be determined by the role you are applying for. Whilst it is unlikely you will be assessed on all of them , you will be assessed on these identified as key to role.
Have completed a recognised apprenticeship in plumbing or heating and ventilation or mechanical engineering services.
Experience of plumbing and heating maintenance on industrial/commercial systems.
Experience of mechanical maintenance and repairs on other mechanical systems, for example ventilation systems and fire suppression.
Flexible and adaptable with a willingness and ability to support on-call working arrangements.
Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements and relevant legislation.
Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision and as part of a
