The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) is currently recruiting permanent Plumbing & Heating Maintenance Engineers to work within our prisons across Scotland. We currently have vacancies in the following locations: Stirling, Glasgow, Greenock, Perth and Bishopbriggs (Glasgow) however we will consider applications for other locations across Scotland. Our Plumbing & Heating Maintenance Engineers provide a comprehensive repairs and maintenance service for the mechanical systems in each prison establishment such as plumbing, Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS), heating and ventilation systems.

Please note that there will be a requirement to periodically work on call hours.

Successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Scotland check and a pre-employment medical assessment to determine suitability for role.

Responsibilities
Undertake reactive and planned maintenance and minor works throughout the establishment as instructed to all mechanical plant, equipment and systems whilst utilising IT applications.
Maintain a safe and healthy working environment through regular checking and testing of mechanical appliances and installations in accordance with relevant legislation. Participating in an "on-call" rota for emergency repairs, providing area coverage when required.
Monitor and adjust mechanical control systems to ensure optimum performance within guidelines as well as mechanical inspection and testing.
To provide technical support and advice on plumbing, heating and ventilation issues to the Technical Manager and other staff as necessary.
Assume practical responsibility for all plumbing, heating and ventilation related installations, and provide timely pre-emptive condition reports to the Technical Manager.
Assess and order parts and equipment necessary for individual tasks, in conjunction with the administrator.

Qualifications Requirements

Have completed a recognised apprenticeship in plumbing or heating and ventilation or engineering services (mechanical)

Experience of plumbing and heating maintenance on industrial/commercial systems

Experience of mechanical maintenance and repairs including fire systems and equipment

Knowledge Skills Requirements

Full driving licence that enables you to drive in the UK is preferred but we will consider proposals put forward to carry out the duties by any other means
