The post holder is responsible for managing the Edinburgh Prisoner Canteen Services and Cashier, ensuring all areas are providing a reliable and proactive service supported by robust controls, procedures and processes that will withstand audit scrutiny and meet the challenges of this busy prison.
Responsibilities
Provide line management to the cash office and canteen staff, including effective rostering, absence management and PPMS.
To ensure that all Staff and Prisoner cash transactions and Canteen activities are conducted, recorded and stored in accordance with Establishment needs and also in line with the SPS Finance and Audit policies and guidance.
Responsible for the effective management and monitoring of resources of the Cash Office and Prisoner Canteen in order to ensure operational effectiveness and value for money, in compliance with relevant SPS policies.
Responsible for managing the management information systems and reports to ensure reports on key performance targets are accurate and within timescales.
To ensure that monthly and year-end Financial and Stock, reconciliations are completed accurately, timeously and in compliance with SPS Finance Manual
Manage the processes, procedures and controls associated with weekly, month end routines and year end requirements and procedures.

Qualifications Requirements

5 Standard grades at Grade 3 or above (including English and Maths/Arithmetic) or equivalent qualification or relevant experience.

ESSENTIAL

Educated to a degree level (or equivalent, such as AAT) in a relevant discipline, or possessing relevant financial experience.

DESIRABLE

Experience Requirements

Experience of managing multiple financial systems and controls that provide the required assurances.

Proven experience of managing and developing staff in a complex environment

Previous financial experience at a managerial level

DESIRABLE

Knowledge Skills Requirements

Knowledge of Financial Audit Procedures. The job holder would require 2 years previous experience of financial and stock control systems and processes.
