To provide technical lead to HQ Project Managers and Estates Maintenance teams on design, operation, maintenance and safety of electrical systems. Undertake inspections of installed systems and audits of working practices to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and ensure safe operating conditions are maintained. Successful candidate will advise and direct prison Governors ('the Duty Holder') in compliance with electrical safety issues and progress local and national projects. Undertake Authorising Authority functions, deputising for Authorising Engineer as directed.
Responsibilities
As a professional engineer the post holder shall provide a highly specialised advisory service with regards to electrical installations, including their design, operation, maintenance and compliance, on the SPS estate.
In conjunction with the SPS Estates Senior Mechanical Engineer, the Electrical Engineer shall be responsible for ensuring electrical safety compliance on behalf of SPS including compliance with the requirements of the
Electricity at Work Regulations. The post holder shall support the Senior M&E Engineer with HV issues and to implement the rulebook of HV systems. They shall undertake periodic audits to ensure compliance is being achieved and that working practices are compliant within the approved methods.
Undertake periodic audits of maintenance systems and records; review set up of systems and installations to ensure correct protection measures of are in place, carry out protection grading checks and undertake check calculations.
Acting as SPS 'interpreter' and 'catalyst' regarding relevant electrical legislation, produce guidance and good practice on relevant and emerging technologies. Prepare accurate, comprehensive and easy to read (for non-specialist) specialist reports and presentations for feasibility studies, business cases and proposals; undertake defect analysis with straightforward explanation; and undertake specialist installation, environmental condition, asset and equipment condition surveys.
Providing specialist advice to SPS Project Managers and designers, external consultants and other appointed persons regarding design issues; prepare and maintain standard specifications and briefs.
Provide a specialist advice to ensure maintenance regimes are appropriate and compliant.

Qualifications Requirements
Degree in Electrical Engineering. Essential
Chartered membership of a relevant professional body recognised by the Engineering Council or commitment to achieve within 4 years. Desirable

Relevant experience of providing advice, guidance and technical support to managers within a multi-site, multi-building and multi-system organisation. Essential

Experience of electrical and system installations including electrical maintenance activities, safety and control systems in relation to the build environment and have an understanding of building processes. Essential

 

Experience of utilising project management techniques and processes to monitor progress again project plans, budgets and identify potential issues. Desirable
