The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) is currently recruiting permanent System Engineers to work within our prisons across Scotland.
We currently have vacancies in Bishopbriggs, Glasgow however we will consider applications for other locations across Scotland. You can access details of our Prison locations here.

Whilst carrying out this role within the SPS, you will support the Technical Manager in all aspects of Estates Work. To provide
a comprehensive repairs, diagnostic, fault finding and maintenance service for the systems. In particular security systems, Building Energy Management System (BEMS), networks, mechanical locking and key vending.

Please note that there will be a requirement to periodically work on call hours for which an allowance will be paid. Overtime may also be available based on business need, although frequency cannot be guaranteed.

Responsibilities
Responsible for ensuring all assigned tasks are inspected, tested, repaired or installed in a safe manner compliant with manufacturer’s instructions and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines. All workmanship will be completed to a professional standard using recognised maintenance standards and techniques.
Assess, plan, measure up and order, through management, all materials, parts and spares necessary for the work to be undertaken. Record and document all time, materials, plant and status of each job as the work progresses and on completion.
Responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of all building fabric repairs including
mechanical locks together with the security, operation and record keeping of the establishment lock store and associated documents as per policy.
Responsible for ensuring that all Fire building systems and controls such as doors, seals, alarms are intact and maintained in accordance with the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) Fire Safety Manual.
Undertake continuous training as required to perform the duty of the role including core, safety and technical.
Responsible and accountable for the security of all tools, plan and materials used by you. Participate in the out of hour’s on-call system which operates on a rotational basis.
Person Specification

Whilst it is unlikely you will be assessed on all of them , you will be assessed on these identified as key to role.

Qualifications Requirements


Have completed a recognised apprenticeship in any building services related discipline e.g. security systems, controls or electronic/electrical or mechanical.


For example SVQ level 2 or City and Guilds Level 3 and a National Certificate (or equivalent) in building services.


ESSENTIAL

Hold appropriate qualifications in control or security systems maintenance, installations and IT.

DESIRABLE

Experience Requirements


Have experience of maintenance on industrial/commercial control systems including an IT element.

Experience of maintenance and repairs, including security equipment, fire systems and equipment

DESIRABLE

 

Full driving licence that enables the person to drive in the UK, however SPS is willing to consider proposals put forward by applicants to carry out the duties by any other means.

Sound knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation, Safe Systems or Work and contingency planning.

Ability to interpret from drawings, instructions and specifications.
