The post holder will be responsible as part of the Chaplaincy Team for the provision of chaplaincy services to all prisoners in the establishment. Duties will be carried out in co-operation with members of the ecumenical chaplaincy team. In matters relating to professional practice the post-holder will also be accountable to the appropriate SPS Prison Chaplaincy Adviser.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the conduct of worship in the establishment at times and places agreed and for the administration of the Sacraments where appropriate.
Make arrangements for religious instruction for the Chaplain’s own and other religious denominations. This will include individual and group work concerning prayer, study of holy books and discussion of matters spiritual and ethical, including classes for religious confirmation of belief.
Facilitate the practice of all recognised religions and faiths as required within the establishment and advise on the provision of all religious material given to prisoners from the establishment.
Complete and contribute to relevant reports, including Parole, monthly and annual monitoring reports and returns required by the Church and SPS authorities and co-operate with the Church and SPS authorities in the assessment and audit of the Chaplaincy service provided to the establishment.
Be available to provide pastoral care to prisoners. The Chaplain is also available to provide pastoral care to staff.
Liaise closely with staff and external agencies within the establishment as part of a multi-disciplinary team for the benefit of prisoners throughout their sentence and on release.

Qualifications Requirements
Ordained Minister, or Office-bearer or Post-holder, who is a recognised representative from a denomination or association of the Reformed Tradition of the Christian Church in good standing with, and suitably accredited by, their Church. - ESSENTIAL
Theological/Pastoral qualification at a recognised Theological College or equivalent. - DESIRABLE
Experience Requirements
Appropriate knowledge and experience in pastoral care and religious practice in a church setting or equivalent. - ESSENTIAL
Previous experience of work within a prison environment or similar - DESIRABLE
Knowledge Skills Requirements
Basic Knowledge of different faith systems and beliefs – ESSENTIAL
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to relate well to people of different social backgrounds and life experiences - ESSENTIAL
Ability to work as part of an ecumenical and multi-faith Chaplaincy team, with persons of differing Faiths and beliefs, and as part of other multi-disciplinary teams in the prison and community - ESSENTIAL
Ability to organise, co-ordinate, and manage a busy workload with minimal supervision - ESSENTIAL
