The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) is currently recruiting permanent Joiners to work within our prisons across Scotland. We currently have vacancies in Glasgow however we will consider applications for other locations across Scotland. You can access details of our Prison locations here.
Whilst carrying out this role within the SPS you will support the Technical Manager in all aspects of Estates Work. To provide a comprehensive repairs and maintenance service for all of estate building maintenance fabric, installations, replacements and repairs. In particular security systems to include mechanical locking and key vending. You will provide an effective and efficient service to ensure compliance with all statutory legislative requirements, industry guidelines and policy.
Please note that there will be a requirement to periodically work on call hours for which an allowance will be paid. Overtime may also be available based on business need, although frequency cannot be guaranteed.

This identifies behaviours and standards required both of applicants seeking to join us, and our staff in their respective roles. Assessment of specific behaviours, of which there are twelve, will be determined by the role you are applying for. Whilst it is unlikely you will be assessed on all of them , you will be assessed on these identified as key to role.
Have completed a recognised apprenticeship in a building related discipline.
For example SVQ level 2 or City and Guilds Level 3 and a National Certificate (or equivalent) in a related building discipline. ESSENTIAL
Experience relevant to the role having worked within a similar environment or other maintenance/construction environment as a carpenter or joiner.

Have a comprehensive knowledge and application of the Building (Scotland) Act and Regulations.

Full driving licence that enables the person to drive in the UK, however SPS is willing to consider proposals put forward by applicants to carry out the duties by any other means.

Sound knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation, Safe Systems or Work and contingency planning.

Ability to interpret from drawings, instructions and specifications.
