As the Assistant Management Accountant, you will assist the Management Accountant in the production and reporting of the monthly financial position, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. The post holder will assist in the annual budgetary cycle and Scottish Government budget revisions, working with budget holders to identify cost pressures and areas for improvement.

You will work with internal and external stakeholders: building and sustaining effective relationships with, for example, Audit Scotland, Internal Audit, the District Valuer, and the Scottish Government.

You will be responsible for the recording transactions in respect of capital accounting and fixed assets efficiently, accurately and on a timely basis to the fixed asset and financial systems, in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the Government Reporting Manual (FReM) and SPS policies and procedures.

 

Responsibilities
To assist in the production of the monthly management accounts, investigating and reporting on significant budgetary variances, advising on the necessary remedial action and monitoring the implementation of these actions. 
The post-holder will support the financial planning cycle, modelling and forecasting, ensuring that all funding requirements have been accurately and comprehensively recorded, obtaining sign off as appropriate.
Support budget holders by providing specialist advice on financial management issues including: capital accounting, VAT
compliance, budgeting and forecast outturns and financial planning.
Assist the Management Accountant to prepare and produce timely and relevant monthly financial and management reports.
Responsible for the reconciliation of the Fixed Asset Register (Real Asset Management: Asset 4000) ensuring that all capital assets are accounted for appropriately, providing accurate monthly and annual financial reports.
Assist in the preparation of the capital notes for the statutory annual accounts, assisting with the implementation of any external audit recommendations

Qualifications Requirements
Part qualified CCAB (or CIMA) Accountant, or AAT (or similar) qualified. ESSENTIAL
Willing to work towards completing a professional accountancy qualification. ESSENTIAL
Experience Requirements
Experience of management accounting, including planning, monitoring, analysis and reporting. ESSENTIAL
Experience of capital accounting processes including preparation of statutory financial accounts. ESSENTIAL
IT literate with experience of using a Windows based financial system and, as a minimum, have intermediate Excel skills ESSENTIAL
Knowledge Skills Requirements
