Mechanical Maintenance Engineers (Plumbing/HVAC)
The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) is currently recruiting permanent Mechanical Maintenance Engineers to work within our prisons across Scotland. We currently have vacancies in the following locations: Edinburgh, Stirling, Glasgow, Bishopbriggs and Perth however we will consider applications for other locations across Scotland. Whilst carrying out an engineering role within the SPS, you will play a key role in designing, maintaining, repairing and installing systems on the varied SPS Estate whilst enjoying the range of benefits we offer including job security, generous annual leave entitlement (34 days rising to 42 days after 5 years), a choice of two high quality pension schemes, as well as free gym access and discounts at a number of high street stores and restaurants.
You will support the Technical Manager in all aspects of Estates work in providing a comprehensive repairs and maintenance service for all mechanical systems and plant, in particular, plumbing, gas, heating and ventilation and Building Energy Management System (BEMS).
Please note that there will be a requirement to periodically work on call hours, for which an allowance is paid. Overtime may also be available based on business needs, although the frequency cannot be guaranteed.

SPS recruitment and selection practice is based on the fundamentals of our Behavioural Competency Framework. This identifies behaviours and standards required both of applicants seeking to join us, and our staff in their respective roles. Assessment of specific behaviours, of which there are twelve, will be determined by the role you are applying for. Whilst it is unlikely you will be assessed on all of them , you will be assessed on these identified as key to role.
Have completed a recognised apprenticeship in Engineering Services (mechanical) or plumbing or heating and ventilation.
For example SVQ level 2 and a National Certificate or equivalents, such as City and Guilds.
ESSENTIAL
Hold a current relevant mechanical qualification to match the above. Ideally have a commercial heating and/or catering gas qualification and be Gas Safe registered.
DESIRABLE
Have experience of mechanical services, plumbing and heating maintenance on industrial/ commercial systems. Also experience of mechanical maintenance and repairs including fire systems and equipment.
ESSENTIAL
Be multi skilled and have experience of other Estates maintenance and repair tasks such as electrical and building works maintenance and repairs or be willing to develop these skills.

Full driving licence that enables the person to drive in the UK, however SPS is willing to consider proposals put forward by applicants to carry out the duties by any other means.

Sound knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation, Safe Systems of Work and contingency planning.

Ability to interpret from drawings, instructions and specifications.
